One of the questions I get asked all the time is:
"What's the first thing you notice when you pull up to a property?"
Most people assume it's the house.
Nope.
It's the driveway.
After driving all over Florida looking at land and homes, I've come to realize that driveways have personalities and they usually give you a pretty good preview of what's waiting at the end.
Here are a few of my favorites.
🌴 The "Are We There Yet?" Driveway
You turn off the main road.
Then you keep driving.
And driving.
At some point you wonder if your GPS accidentally rerouted you into another county.
By the time you reach the house, you've already burned half a tank of gas but the privacy? Worth it.
🪨 The "Suspension Test"
Technically it's a driveway.
Your truck respectfully disagrees.
Every bump has you wondering if your alignment is still under warranty.
On the bright side, you'll know immediately whether your coffee lid was secured.
🌳 The Tunnel
Massive oak trees arch over the driveway like you're entering a movie set.
Instant shade.
Instant curb appeal.
Instant urge to slow down and enjoy the ride.
These are my favorite.
🚜 The "Country Welcome"
The driveway says,
"Yes, someone owns a tractor."
Maybe two.
There's probably a workshop, a barn, and at least one project that's been "almost finished" since 2018.
Honestly?
That's part of the charm.
🌅 The Sunset Drive
The driveway curves just enough that you can't see the house right away.
Then...
It opens up to a field, a pond, or a view that makes you forget why you were in a hurry.
Those are the moments that remind me why I love what I do.
🚪 The Hidden Gem
Sometimes the driveway isn't fancy.
It's short.
Simple.
Maybe even a little rough around the edges.
But at the end sits a property that absolutely surprises you.
It's a good reminder that first impressions matter but they don't tell the whole story.
The Land Man's Verdict
Every property starts with a driveway.
Some are dramatic.
Some are practical.
Some are unforgettable.
But every single one tells you something before you ever step out of the truck.
So now I'm curious...
